The Rocaille Sofa is a design that takes a light-hearted approach to this type of furniture. It is a kind of playful interpretation of the form and character of Rococo-era pieces.
The intricate, plant-like decorations have been replaced with elements made of colored glass. These glass ornaments were created in the Czech Republic, at the glassworks of Dalibor Šípek, the son of the famous glass designer Bořek Šípek. The furniture structure is made of bent, stained, and polished wood.
Particular attention should be given to the upholstery made of hand-painted silk. Artist Joanna Szymankiewicz was invited to create this unique fabric. Over her 25 years of working with silk, Ms. Szymankiewicz has developed her own proprietary technique for processing and painting this material.
Selected works by Joanna Szymankiewicz can be viewed on her website: http://jedwabautorski.pl.
